PINKUS IS A MELVIN, UPDATE...
from the Ipecac Records website...
" LOS ANGELES, July 29, 2014 -The Melvins return with Hold It In, their first studio album as a quartet since 2010's The Bride Screams Murder, on Oct. 14.
Joining Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover for the 12-song outing are Butthole Surfers' guitar player Paul Leary and bass player JD Pinkus. Hold It In was recorded in both Los Angeles and Austin earlier this year.
"Hold It In is a refreshing piece of fiction in a boring world of fact and bullsh*t," said Osborne. "Paul is one of the best guitar players I have ever heard and Pinkus has an outside the box type of approach to both guitar and bass that you just have to let it ride. I can't believe this actually happened. I'm thrilled."
"It's very rare you get a chance to work with three folks from the 'Break A Wish' foundation, all at the same time," said Pinkus. "I believe they'll remember their experience with me forever (or until they finally all lose their fight with S.I.D.S)."
The Melvins kick off a round of U.S. tour dates on Oct. 15 in Sacramento at Assembly, which also includes a performance at this year's Voodoo Experience in New Orleans. Osborne, Crover and Pinkus will be the touring roster for this run of dates. "
RIGHT ON!!
In addition, I had a great talk with Brett Bradford concerning how to release the back-catalog of STACKED RECORDS, and we came to an agreement. Long story short, all that stuff is FINALLY going to see the light of day! To start off, the SANGRE DE TORO album, "El Pee, Numero Uno" just came out a few days ago! Today, though, AREOLA 51's first "SELF TITTLED" LP is being released!

PINKUS IS ONE HONKY-ASS-MELVIN...
August, 2013:
Thats right, Jeff Pinkus has been filling in on bass duties with the Melvins, currently on their 30th year anniversary tour--with Honky opening...Honky with Dale Crover on Drums that is! You definitely don't want to miss this if its in your area. Its a great pairing up of two unlikely bands chock full of talent.

January 10th, 2015:
Last fall both Areola 51 studio efforts were at long last released, and you might think that that's all there is of A51 to hear...but WRONGO YOU ARE BUCKO...
For example, today I am releasing VOLUME 3 of the BOOTLEG SERIES, which is A51 at an Austin club called HEADHUNTERS back in 2005. Its a set notable for the funny fact that we did a cover of SPENCER DAVIS GROUP'S tune, "I'm a Man" with BISCUIT TURNER singing vocals and EZRA REYNOLDS playing organ...and suddenly JELLO BIAFRA jumps in and decides to help sing backup vocals!

In 2005, Areola 51 was asked to play the SXSW music festival, where the sets are short and the audiences are strange... So on March 18th we headed down to our 'showcase' and played to a very small but very stoked crowd, one of whom was Dale Crover from the Melvins. I got to hang out and chit chat with him which I had not done in a long time. Another happened to be Jello Biafra. He got the sudden inspiration to join us on our last tune, a cover of the SPENCER DAVIS GROUP song "I'm a Man". As if that wasn't interesting enough, we already had arranged for BISCUIT TURNER from the BIG BOYS to make a cameo singing-wise, as well as EZRA REYNOLDS sitting in playing his incredible B-3 organ! Ezra was running late, probably due to playing multiple showcases in one night and the complications of getting a large instrument and amp across town during such an event. But he does makes it. So the show is going along like a normal A51 show, when all of the sudden we kinda go into overdrive.

Areola 51 played that SPENCER DAVIS GROUP cover tune on two occasions, one of which is on the album. Below was the other performance that someone recorded and put up on YouTube--so here you go!
